PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Prosecutor Deb Kelly is considering whether to seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing two men because they were registered sex offenders.
Patrick B. Drum was charged Wednesday with aggravated murder in the weekend shootings of Gary Blanton at Drum’s home near Sequim and of Jerry W. Ray at his home near Port Angeles.
Drum was arrested Sunday after a manunt. He had a 9mm pistol that sheriff’s investigators say was used in the killings. They also say he left a note saying he hated sex offenders and “it had to be done.”
After arraignment Wednesday, the prosecutor will have 30 days to announce the death penalty decision. The only other possibility if the 34-year-old is convicted would be life in prison without parole.
