The trial for a former Christian school principal accused of sexually assaulting a student has been rescheduled.
Mark Brown, 37, appeared Thursday in Snohomish County Superior Court for a brief hearing to move the trial from January to March. Attorneys agreed that they need the additional time to prepare.
Brown is charged with third-degree rape of a child. He is accused of encouraging a 14-year-old student to run away from home and offering her a place to stay at Highland Christian School in Arlington.
The girl told detectives Brown had sexual contact with her at the school in a room he set up with a hide-a-bed and television, according to court documents.
Detectives say Brown and the girl exchanged nearly 700 text messages and phone calls.
Brown pleaded not guilty to the rape charge July 23. He later was released from jail after posting $100,000 bond.
He was fired from Highland Christian School a couple days later.
