LYNNWOOD — Detectives were investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday involving a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy.
It was reported just after 5:30 a.m. along 164th Street SW over I-5, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. He also serves as a spokesman for the Snohomish County Multipl
e Agency Response Team, which investigates all officer-involved shootings.
The deputy stopped to talk to a pedestrian on the overpass, Goetz said.
As the deputy got out of his patrol car the man charged the deputy threatening to kill him. A fight ensued. At some point during the fight the deputy shot the suspect once in the torso, Goetz said in a statement.
The 32-year-old man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center where he died. His city of residence has not been confirmed.
The deputy, 25, has been with the Sheriff’s Office for more than three years. The deputy is expected to be placed on paid administrative leave, a routine procedure following these types of incidents, Goetz said.
The roadway is expected to be closed to auto and pedestrian traffic for several hours.
If anyone witnessed this incident they are asked to call 911 or the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257 -8450.
The shooting, in unincorporated Lynnwood, is the second for the sheriff’s office in less than a week.
On July 10, a deputy fatally shot a Bothell man during a confrontation that occurred as part of a reported domestic violence call.
