EVERETT — It wasn’t a bullet that struck a Riverside neighborhood man, and it doesn’t appear to be a random act of violence, as previously believed, police said Tuesday.
The 31-year-old man reported being shot while standing on his back porch in the 2300 block of Fulton Street at about 6:15 p.m. Monday. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Police initially treated the incident as a random shooting in a quiet residential neighborhood. Officers went door-to-door talking to residents and led a police dog through the area.
But police now believe the incident was far less worrisome, although they are still trying to sort out exactly what happened.
"The investigation is ongoing, but at this point in time, it does not appear that it’s a random act of violence," said Everett police Lt. Pete Hegge.
Police now know the man was shot by a pellet rifle, not a shotgun or hunting rifle, Hegge said.
The man told police he didn’t hear any gunshots, just felt a pain in his abdomen and discovered he’d been shot. He didn’t see anyone with a weapon or any cars in the area. After searching the area, police found nothing to indicate the origin of the shot.
Hegge asked anyone who is aware of someone in the neighborhood who shoots a pellet gun, or who has information about the incident, to call the police tip line at 425-257-8450.
