SPOKANE — The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office says the fatal shooting of a Spokane homicide suspect by city police was justified.
Three officers shot and killed Justin Cairns, 21, on the front porch of his home last May. The prosecutor’s office says he disregarded their commands; told them, “Shoot me”; and then reached for something in his waistband, which turned out to be a cell phone.
Cairns was wanted in the shooting of Cyrus C. Jones, 33, earlier that morning.
The prosecutor’s office says the three officers — Jake Jensen, Danny Lesser and Adam Valdez — believed they were in mortal danger. Each fired multiple shots from their rifles.
