SHORELINE – A man shot and killed by police Friday has been identified as Eugene A. Culp of Everett.
Culp, 39, died of a gunshot wound at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Culp was shot after an attempted burglary in the 100 block of NE 161st Street, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A woman called 911, reporting that a man was knocking on her front door. She told police that when she didn’t answer the door, he went around to the back of the house. She was home with her daughter, 12, and son, 9, at the time.
Two Shoreline officers arrived and confronted the suspect, who was in his car parked at a nearby park. Both deputies fired their guns and the suspect was hit at least once, the sheriff’s office reported.
Both sheriff’s deputies are assigned to the Shoreline Police Department. One deputy had been with the sheriff’s office for seven years. The other is a sergeant and a 28-year veteran of the department. Both are 45 years old.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
