EVERETT – A shoplifter slashed the wrist of a security guard who tried to stop him from leaving Home Depot with more than $150 worth of unpaid tools Tuesday, according to court documents.
The security guard saw the man, 55, walk to the hardware department inside the store in the 11900 block of Highway 99. The man picked up a tape measure and utility knife and walked to the back of the store. The guard saw the suspect hide the tools under his coat and walk past the cash registers, according to an police affidavit filed in Everett District Court on Wednesday.
The guard stopped the suspect, who pulled out a folding knife. He slashed at the guard several times, cutting him on the left wrist. The guard backed off and called police. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested the man, who had $10 in his pocket and the stolen tools.
Witnesses told police they heard the man demanding the guard’s wallet while he slashed at him with the knife.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery and several outstanding warrants.
