SHORELINE — A King County sheriff’s spokesman said officers responding to a 911 call fatally shot a 22-year-old man armed with a knife and a shotgun in Shoreline.
Sgt. John Urquhart said two officers were dispatched to a house Wednesday after a 911 operator could only hear a background disturbance in an incoming call from the residence. The officers were met by a young woman who told them her suicidal boyfriend had a knife and she had gotten cut trying to wrestle the knife away from him.
She said her boyfriend’s father was still in the house.
The two officers called for backup. Before more officers could arrive, Urquhart said a young man came out armed with a chef’s knife and a shotgun. The spokesman said both officers fired and the young man died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately identify him.
The spokesman said both officers have been placed on administrative leave.
The sheriff’s office provides police service for the city of Shoreline under contract.
