ALGER — The Washington State Patrol says a Skagit County sheriff’s deputy and a second person have been fatally shot in Skagit County and a trooper has been shot in the arm.
Trooper Keith Leary says a man believed to be the shooter has been taken into custody after a high-speed chase this afternoon on I-5 north of Burlington.
Leary says the deputy was killed after responding to a disturbance call in Alger, about halfway between Burlington and Bellingham.
The civilian who died apparently was shot on I-5.
John Song, who owns a Shell gas station and convenience store in Alger, says police shut down the road leading to his station.
The injured trooper, who was grazed in the arm, has been taken to United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
