The Everett Events Center’s community ice rink kicks off this weekend’s Greater Seattle Hockey League Tournament at 5 p.m. today with the grand opening of the Rusty Skate Pro Shop.
The Rusty Skate will offer ice-skating gear and blade sharpening.
Everett Silvertips players Mitch Love and Kyle Annesley will be there for autographs and pictures. The first 100 people will get $5 gift certificates, and there will be a raffle for prizes.
Car and cycle show to rev up Silvana
The Old Silvana General Store once again will have its Car and Motorcycle Show and Shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday along Pioneer Highway in Silvana.
Last year’s inaugural event brought 170 registered cars, while more than 200 have registered this year.
There is no entry fee. Parking begins at 6:30 a.m. and registration starts at 7 a.m. at Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway.
Oasis coming to Events Center
British bad boy brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will bring their band Oasis to the Everett Events Center Sept. 9. Opening bands will be Jet and Kasabian.

Water Festival on Whidbey Island
The Penn Cove Water Festival returns to Whidbey Island from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on the Coupeville waterfront.
The festival combines American Indian history and culture with environmental education.
It includes Indian canoe races, food, children’s activities and environmental displays. Sponsoring partners include the Orca Network, the town of Coupeville, the Island County Museum and Historical Society, the Port of Coupeville, the Whidbey Island Conservation District and Lighthouse Environmental Programs.
Lions clubs help sight and hearing
Members of Lions clubs will be out today and Saturday collecting donations during the White Cane Days drive to benefit sight and hearing programs.
They also are accepting used eyeglasses and hearing aids.
