SEATTLE — The body of a back country skier who was found dead in an avalanche near Snoqualmie Pass was recovered over the weekend and turned over to the King County Medical examiner’s office in Seattle.
The brother of Monika Johnson, Erik Peters of Seattle, told The Seattle Times his sister died doing what she loved.
The 40-year-old Seattle woman went skiing alone Tuesday on Red Mountain, which is in the Cascades, about 50 miles east of Seattle. She had taken off her skis and backpack when the snow ledge on which she was standing gave way. Her gear was spotted Wednesday by searchers.
Johnson worked as a physical therapist at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
