ARLINGTON — Police on Wednesday were looking for a man who tried to rob a woman Tuesday evening outside a fast food restaurant.
Police were called about 6:30 p.m. to the Smokey Point McDonald’s in the 3500 block of 172nd Street NE, Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. The restaurant’s day manager told officers she was getting in her car when a man approached her and demanded the day’s deposit from the restaurant.
The man pointed a small revolver at the woman, Banfield said. After she told him she didn’t have the money, the suspect reached into the woman’s car and searched her purse. He found no money, threw the purse back into the car and ran eastbound.
Police searched the area with a dog but didn’t find the man. He was described as Hispanic, with dark hair and eyes, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was clean-shaven and wore on his head what looked like a white T-shirt.
Detectives also found a white mask at the scene, Banfield said. They believe it was used in the robbery.
The suspect was seen wearing blue jeans and an off-white T-shirt with a dark design on the front. The victim told officers the man spoke with an accent.
The Smokey Point McDonald’s plans to use an armored money courier service to transport all deposits, Banfield said.
