SNOHOMISH — People who park too long in parts of downtown will risk a $30 ticket.
This week, the City Council approved on a 6-1 vote to set a three-hour time limit for cars parked in 425 spots located along First and Second streets, between Avenue D and Cedar Avenue.
Councilman Tom Hamilton cast the lone vote against.
Stalls outside the area will continue to be available for all-day parking.
The city is in the process of ordering signs that will reflect the change. It is expected the signs will arrive between two and three weeks. Enforcement of the new law is scheduled to start in the middle of November, economic development manager Debbie Emge said.
The council modified the proposed ordinance by keeping handicapped parking full-day.
In a different discussion, the council decided to postpone voting on a proposal to increase 1 percent of the property tax levy until the Nov. 15 meeting.
They were originally planning to vote on the issue on Nov. 1, the same day they plan to have a second public hearing on the levy increase.
