EVERETT— The Snohomish County Council plans to interview candidates and choose two new appointments to the state Legislature today.
Two state representative jobs opened up when Democratic state Rep. John Lovick from District 44 was elected county Sheriff, and District 21 state Rep. Brian Sullivan was elected to the County Council.
Democratic party leaders sent six names to the County Council for evaluation.
The top choices of precinct committee officers are former Snohomish Mayor Liz Loomis for Lovick’s seat, and Mukilteo City Councilman Marko Liias for Sullivan’s seat.
Other nominees include Kerry Watkins and Lillian Kaufer in District 44, and Lynnwood Councilman Mark Smith and Snohomish County Labor Council President Darrell Chapman in District 21.
The County Council plans to meet from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the council chambers on the eighth floor of the county administration building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. Interviews with candidates are planned from 1 to 3 p.m. A public vote will follow the council’s closed-door discussions.
