Two local volunteers on Monday were expected to travel to Southern California to help with wildfire relief efforts.
Steve Taylor of Gold Bar and William McCredie of Mukilteo planned to drive an emergency response vehicle to San Diego and will provide meals to firefighters and people displaced by the wildfires.
The men, volunteers with the Snohomish County chapter of the American Red Cross, are expected to be gone for three weeks.
Officials with the county Red Cross alerted about 250 volunteers they may be needed to assist with relief efforts, spokesman Kris Krischano. Volunteers were asked to report to their local chapter to let officials know if they were available for immediate deployment.
In addition, some Snohomish County firefighters may join the battle against the wildfires. Washington’s Emergency Operation Center sent out a request to the state’s fire departments requesting 50 fire engines.
