Snohomish County got off easy this morning, with just a sprinkling of snow while areas north and south were hit much harder, weather experts said.
“You didn’t do too bad compared to the rest of the region,” said Carl Cerniglia, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Everett received a dusting of snow, but areas closer to the King County line got several inches. The worst of it occurred near the U.S.-Canada line, where people woke this morning to anywhere from two to eight inches, Cerniglia said.
Schools in Edmonds, Coupeville, Granite Falls and other areas were delayed. In King County, Mercer Island schools and a handful of others were closed for the day.
State Department of Transportation crews sent plows out overnight, spokeswoman Aurora Jones said. Spinouts were reported throughout the region late Wednesday night and this morning, but the roads now are clear, she said.
Warmer temperatures today will likely melt the snow, but they could drop below freezing tonight, resulting in icy roads tomorrow, Cerniglia said.
Jones said transportation crews are planning to apply de-icer to the roads this evening.
