Snohomish County to hold post-Earth Day recycling event in Monroe

MONROE — To end Earth Week celebrations, Snohomish County is hosting a free recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen State Fair Park.

Residents can drop off items not traditionally accepted through curbside waste collection services. County departments and local environmental groups will also have educational booths, so attendees can learn more about climate resiliency efforts in Western Washington.

Locals can bring the following items to the event:

• Styrofoam, including takeout containers and shipping coolers, though all tape and labels need to be removed;

• Fluorescent lightbulbs;

• Household batteries, though automotive and hybrid batteries will not be accepted;

• Computers;

• TVs;

• Cellphones, tablets and e-readers;

• Printers, fax machines and scanners;

• Keyboards and computer mice;

• Remote controls;

• Holiday lights, wires and cables;

• Microwaves and other small electric kitchen appliances, though the county doesn’t accept refrigerators;

• Tires;

• Scrap metal;

• Washing machines and dryers;

• Water heaters;

• And stoves.
