SNOHOMISH — A woman was inside a two-story house when it caught fire on Thursday.
She was able to get out but suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 17000 block of Tester Road at about 12:40 p.m.
The house was a total loss. They were able to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
The victim was treated by first responders and transported to EvergreenHealth in Monroe.
A fire marshal was on the way to the scene to identify the cause.
The woman told firefighters she left candles lit while taking a nap, Fire District 7 spokeswoman Heather Chadwick said. When she woke up, the room was filled with smoke.
Chadwick said people should put out candles whenever they leave a room or go to sleep.
“Candles can start a fire faster than you think,” she said.
