Snohomish High School’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC Cadets recently went to Burlington-Edison High School for their third Northwest Drill and Rifle Competition.
The armed drill team took first place, commanded by Cadet Major Dan Russell, who also took first as the armed drill team commander. The unarmed drill team took third place, along with their platoon commander, Cadet Gunnery Sgt. Tamra Hill. Color Guard No. 1 took second place and Color Guard No. 2 finished sixth. The rifle team took fifth, and Cadet Capt. Katie Lesh took third for the sharpshooter in the individual air rifle awards. Russell and Cadet Maj. Ryan Summers took first in the individual armed exhibition duels, and Cadet 1st. Lt. Jon Guncay placed third in the armed individuals.
Their next competition will be at Mariner High School March 27. On April 23 and 24, three-state regional competition will take place at Walla Walla. The group will have a car wash April 3 at the Wells Fargo Bank in Snohomish and at Washington Mutual Bank in Monroe to earn money for the trip.
