Snohomish High School’s JROTC team wrapped up the year winning honors at the Northwest Drill and Rifle Regional competition in Walla Walla last month.
The armed drill team was regional champion for the third time, and the team’s commander, Cadet Maj. Dan Russell, won first place in the platoon commander category.
Other top performers were:
Snohomish’s Color Guard No. 2, second place; rifle team, fifth place; Cadet 1st Lt. Jack Goodrich, fourth place, and Cadet Cpl. Jake Burdsall, second-place in the sharpshooter category; Cadet Capt. Katie Lesh, second place , and Steve Vogt, fifth place, in armed drill down; Cadet Maj. Ryan Summers and Cadet Maj. Dan Russell, fourth place, Armed Exhibition Duels; Cadet 2nd. Lt Jon Guncay, second place, individual armed exhibition category.
Also for the third straight year, the Everett High School JROTC unit was named a distinguished unit. The award is given each year to 30 percent of the JROTC units in the nation.
