Snohomish man charged in road rage fatality

SEATTLE — King County prosecutors have charged a Snohomish man with vehicular homicide and reckless driving in what they describe as a road rage crash that killed a software engineer in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland.

Fifty-six-year-old Patrick Rexroat bailed out of jail after a judge set bail Monday at $50,000. Rexroat was re-arrested when prosecutors who charged him Wednesday again requested $1 million bail and a judge agreed.

Prosecutors said Rexroat had a blood alcohol level of .29 — more than three times the legal intoxication threshold of .08 — and was chasing another car in a road rage incident Sunday when his SUV hit a car driven by Steve Lacey of Kirkland.

Lacey was not involved in the road rage. He worked at Google and previously worked at Microsoft where he led teams that worked on the Flight Simulator games.

Rexroat’s arraignment is scheduled Aug. 9.
