LAKE WENATCHEE – A Snohomish man was killed in a snowmobiling accident near here on Saturday.
Joseph Weigelt, 49, was snowmobiling with two other people about 2:30 p.m. along a trail in the Brushy Creek area just outside of Lake Wenatchee when he apparently lost control and hit a tree, Chelan County Sheriff’s spokesperson Jerry Moore said. Weigelt was dead at the scene.
Detectives continue to investigate, Moore said. It appears speed was a factor in the crash.
The area where Weigelt was snowmobiling is a popular snow park. “We had minor injuries there this season, but nothing like this,” Moore said.
