SNOHOMISH — A new mural is being painted at the Earl Winehart Post 96 of American Legion.
Monroe painter David Hose is currently working on a 35-foot-by-60-foot mural that will depict six armed conflicts in which the United States fought: World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Hose is also painting three modern soldiers and aircraft from different periods behind the six scenes.
The design was created by post members, Hose said.
Hose aims to finish the mural by mid-October.
“This is the first military mural I have ever done with a lot of human figures,” said Hose, 67. “I’m thrilled to do it. Since I didn’t serve, this is my way to make it up in a small way.”
The $20,000 mural is being paid by membership dues and by donations. Post 96 has held several fundraisers, but it is still $12,000 short to pay for work and materials, post Commander Pat Guyot said.
People can help by giving donations at the post, located at 1201 First St., Snohomish.
The mural is important to show all veterans are still being remembered, Guyot said.
“It shows that we honor our veterans and we respect them,” Guyot said.
This is the second mural at the wall. The old one was painted in 1994. The post decided to change it because it had faded, Guyot said.
