Snohomish park projects need helpers

The Snohomish Parks Foundation and the city of Snohomish Adopt-A-Park program need volunteers’ help with two park projects this month.

The fall cleanup and weeding party at Claytown Park is set for noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at 1329 Ave. I in Snohomish. Volunteers are asked to bring gardening tools, rakes, shovels and gloves.

On National Make a Difference Day, native greenery will be planted in the Blackmans Lake watershed. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 28 at Hill Park, 1610 Park Ave., to receive assignments.

The city and the foundation are looking for 100 volunteers to help complete the project by 2 p.m. that day. Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather and bring gloves and shovels.

Mentor or tutor a Mariner student

The South Everett Neighborhood Center, Familias Unidas and Mariner High School’s Life After School program need mentor-tutor volunteers to help high school students for whom English is a second language.

Volunteers will help students learn study and leadership skills as well as offer help with algebra, geometry and English classes.

Volunteers are asked to make a three-month commitment to work from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning in November.

Make a difference with United Way

United Way of Snohomish County is participating in National Make a Difference Day on Oct. 28.

To find a volunteer opportunity, go to the organization’s Web site, www.uwsc.org, and click on “Volunteer.” Projects are listed by age, group, ZIP code and area of interest.

Get help running a volunteer program

United Way of Snohomish County is offering a two-day course to help managers of volunteer programs.

The seminar provides an overview of successful volunteer programs, identifies resources for future development and provides networking opportunities.

The sessions are from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 and Nov. 20 at United Way of Snohomish County, 917 134th St. SW, Everett. The cost is $160.

Group on prowl for cat lovers

Volunteers are needed at the Northwest Organization for Animal Health, 31300 Brandstrom Road, Stanwood.

Volunteers will help feed and care for cats on weekday mornings beginning at 8 a.m.

Marysville festival needs craft vendors
