Snohomish police arrest man in case involving indecency

SNOHOMISH – Police on Wednesday arrested a 44-year-old man on investigation of indecent liberties after an alleged sexual assault at a business on Avenue D.

The victim reported the incident at about 11 a.m. Saturday. She told police that she was approached by a man she recognized as a past customer. Snohomish police Sgt. Corey Cook said the man allegedly committed indecent liberties and then left.

On Wednesday, police identified the suspect and his vehicle and kept watch on the vehicle until the suspect returned. He was arrested without incident, Cook said. The case remains under investigation.

Man arrested for sexual assault: A 38-year-old Snohomish man was arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

The girl told police Sunday that four days earlier, she had accompanied the man to his north Snohomish home, where she was sexually assaulted. She said she knew the man casually from her place of employment. She identified the man and his home to police.

During follow-up investigation, detective Kristi Cuddy arrested the man and booked him into the Snohomish County Jail. The investigation is continuing.

Stolen items recovered: Police recovered items stolen from an antiques store in the 100 block of Union Avenue and arrested a 15-year-old boy.

About 11 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a burglary in progress, Snohomish police Sgt. Corey Cook said Wednesday. The caller reported that two subjects broke out a window of the business and ran off with the items.

Sgt. Jim Upton located a 15-year-old boy and arrested him on investigation of second-degree burglary. Upton found the stolen property at the boy’s home, Cook said.

The boy was booked into the Denney Juvenile Justice Center.

Sex offender warning: A convicted sex offender with ties to the area has prompted a public notice from Marysville police.

Justin Lee Jewell, 19, is registered as a homeless Level 3 offender, but he has ties to the Marysville area.

Level 3 offenders are considered the most at risk to commit more crimes.

He was convicted in 1995 of two counts of first-degree child molestation involving a male relative and a 4-year-old girl who was a family friend, detective Sgt. Jeff Goldman said. Jewell was released from custody on June 13, 2000. He has several prior convictions for theft, burglary and assault.

Goldman said police want to the public aware that Jewell has been known to frequent the Marysville area.

“This notice is not intended to increase fear in our community, and Mr. Jewell is not wanted by police at this time,” Goldman said.

Jewell is a white male, 6 feet, 189 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Level III sex offenders are required to report weekly to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The police department’s Crime Prevention Division is available to help citizens establish block watches and to provide public safety information. For information, call 360-651-5050.

Volunteers are from Jefferson, Island and Kitsap counties, along with other ferry communities.

Summit crash: A Seattle woman injured in a crash on U.S. 2 remained in serious condition Wednesday.

Estelle E. Hansen, 89, suffered skull and neck fractures when the pickup she was a passenger in left the highway, drove up an embankment and rolled over. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Rolf P. Hansen, 56, of Leavenworth was driving the eastbound 2001 Ford pickup about 7:45 p.m. approaching the Stevens Pass summit when the crash occurred, according to the Washington State Patrol.

He was treated at Valley General Hospital in Monroe and released, hospital spokeswoman Martha Dankers said.

The crash destroyed the pickup.

Victim remains in hospital: A man who suffered a critical head injury and was dropped off at an Everett fire station Monday remained listed in serious condition.

The 35-year-old Kirkland man was on a respirator and under sedation in the neuro-trauma center at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Wednesday, spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.

Police are still trying to determine how and where the man was injured. They only learned his identity after they tracked down the owner of a cell phone the victim carried.

His name has not been released.

Detectives ask anyone with information on the man or how he was injured to call the police tip line at 425-257-8450.
