SNOHOMISH – Snohomish has decided it wants to keep its interim police chief on the job for up to three years.
The city council on Tuesday evening voted unanimously to offer the police chief job to John Turner, who has been running the Snohomish Police Department since February.
Turner, a former police chief in Mountlake Terrace and Marysville, replaced Gordon Wiborg, who resigned as Snohomish police chief in December. Wiborg was under investigation for sending romantic messages to an officer he supervised.
Offering Turner the job means that the city will abandon for now its search for a permanent replacement chief, and also stop studying a possible contract with the Snohomish County Sheriffs Office to provide police services, council members were told.
