SNOHOMISH — A woman suffered severe injuries Friday night when the car she was driving was hit broadside by another vehicle as she backed out of a driveway east of Snohomish, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She would have been airlifted, but no helicopters were available to take her, sheriff’s office Lt. Jeff Brand said.
Further information on the woman’s condition was unavailable Friday night.
The accident happened about 7:15 p.m. in the 7500 block of 131st Avenue SE, about half a mile south of Three Lakes Road. The car on 131st Avenue SE, which was heading south, struck the other car on the driver’s side, Brand said.
A 17-year-old girl who was driving the southbound car may have suffered minor injuries, Brand said. She had two passengers who also may have been hurt.
When the crash was reported, first responders believed the collision may have caused a fire inside the car. It’s unknown whether there were actually flames, or whether witnesses just saw air bags deploying, Brand said.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the accident. Firefighters from Snohomish, Lake Stevens and Monroe assisted.
Deputies closed off 131st Avenue SE between Three Lakes Road and 84th Street SE after the crash.
