YAKIMA — The Washington Transportation Department is wrapping up work on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass to prepare for winter snows.
Lane restrictions are ending Friday after repairs to the Cle Elum bridge. Crews finish striping between North Bend and Ellensburg next week.
Spokeswoman Meagan McFadden said I-90 drivers will have two lanes in each direction over the pass. There are three lanes westbound for a one-mile section near Hyak. Westbound drivers also have a wider chain-up area near Hyak.
Next fall the department plans to open three lanes in each direction in a three-mile stretch where crews have been blasting away rock. They hope to extend the three-lane stretch to five miles in 2017 near Lake Keechelus.
About 27,000 vehicles a day cross Snoqualmie Pass on the state’s main east-west highway.
