Schools in Snohomish County were closed again today as snow continues to cause major commuting problems, and the flurries keep coming.
The National Weather Service in Seattle posted a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. today. Snow showers today could bring several more inches throughout the Puget Sound area, forecasters said. The temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing.
Already hard hit north county communities, including Arlington and Stanwood, saw more snow overnight, but this time they weren’t alone. A blanket of snow covered the region.
Slick roads forced several road closures and re-routing of bus routes. Commuters should expect delays.
The Seattle area, which was spared snow Wednesday, was struggling with snow today. Commuters headed to work in King County were advised to check road conditions and stay home, if possible.
“King County is getting the brunt of it,” Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said.
Some major roadways were closed this morning, including Highway 520 in Redmond.
Roads in Snohomish County were “slow going,” Leary said.
Troopers responded to 15 minor collision accidents in the county since midnight, he said.
Leave plenty of space between vehicles and drive slowly, Leary said.
“That’s simply the word of the day,” he said.
Sunny but cold weather is expected Friday and Saturday, then snow returns to the forecast through Tuesday.
Hopes of a White Christmas now seem to be fading. Forecasters now say it’s expected to rain on Christmas Eve.
