Mill Creek Veterans Day ceremony
The city of Mill Creek will sponsor a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Monument at 11 a.m., Nov. 11 in Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, Mill Creek.
The guest speaker is US Navy Commander Daniel Limberg, executive officer of the Everett Naval Station.
The public is invited to attend. Limited parking is available in the library parking lot.
Girls’ Night Out at Molbak’s
Save the date for Girls’ Night Out at Molbak’s, an after-hours holiday shopping event benefiting the YWCA.
Grab your girlfriends and come to Molbak’s for an evening of festivities from 7-9:30 p.m., Nov. 17 at 13625 NE 175th St., Woodinville.

NARFE Annual Health Fair
The Sno-King Chapter of NARFE will sponsor the chapter’s annual Health Fair. The Sno-King Chapter 1966 will meet Nov. 17 at the Snohomish PUD Auditorium, 21018 Highway 99, Lynnwood.
A social is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. followed by the annual health fair at 1 p.m. Visiting active and retired federal employees welcome.
Lake Ballinger forum open house
The Lake Ballinger/McAleer Creek Watershed Forum is hosting an open house that includes a presentation by the cities of Mountlake Terrace and Edmonds on the McAleer Creek Culvert Removal and Stream Bank Enhancement Project.
The open house is scheduled for 2 p.m., Nov. 15 at the Nile Shrine Center, 6601 244th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace.

Soap for Hope campaign starts
AAA is accepting donations of unopened toiletry items during its fourth annual Soap for Hope campaign.
Donations of soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste and deodorant will be distributed to people in need through local shelters, food banks and charitable organizations. Donations may be dropped off 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until the end of the year.
Donations made at the following locations will stay in the community and benefit Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County:

Identity theft talk with Exchange Club
The Edmonds Exchange Club is presenting a talk on identity theft at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 9 in the auditorium at Swedish/Edmonds, 21601 76th Ave. W.

Free community Thanksgiving dinner
Westgate Chapel is offering a free community Thanksgiving dinner. Guests can attend one of the three seatings at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds.
A traditional homemade turkey dinner, family photos, children’s crafts and gifts, a food and clothing bank, and transportation will be available.
Comedian and ventriloquist Mark Thompson will perform.
The first 150 children at the 11 a.m. seating will have a chance to win a new Nintendo Wii System. All three seatings have drawings for $50 Toys “R” Us gift certificates and door prizes.

Learn about diabetes at Merrill Gardens
November is American Diabetes Month, and is an opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes and its serious complications.

AAA Driver Improvement Program
The AAA Driver Improvement Program is accepting reservations for its refresher course on defensive driving skills. The course gives practical guidance for traffic accident prevention and enhances driver safety and confidence. Successful course completion qualifies drivers 55 years of age and over for automobile insurance premium discounts.

Trout Unlimited presents ‘Red Gold’
The Edmonds Chapter of Trout Unlimited will present the award-winning documentary “Red Gold” at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 16 at the South Snohomish County Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. in Edmonds.
“Red Gold” is the story of a massive mining development which could destroy Bristol Bay, Alaska.
The program will also feature Dwayne Meadows, Trout Unlimited outreach director, who will discuss the need for awareness about Pebble Mine and its effect on an entire ecosystem. The region is home to the largest sockeye runs in North America, with 40 million returning to its waters each year. Meadows will explain the national effort underway to prevent Pebble Mine from moving forward.

The Watershed Report at Stream Center
Leadership Students from Lake Washington and Shoreline School District high schools will present The Watershed Report, 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at Northwest Stream Center Auditorium in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
The Watershed Report features students’ “report card” on how local governments are faring on storm water management, water conservation, energy and green building issues.
The Watershed Report is geared for advanced middle school students to adults. The event is free; call 425-316-8592 to reserve a seat.
Tech Coaching: Skype
Learn new skills and tricks from teen volunteers in an hour long one-on-one tutoring sessions. The Mountlake Terrace Library offers two sessions focusing on Skype, a free service to make video calls online. Help will also be available for basic email and cell phone coaching.

• HeartSaver CPR and AED: 6 p.m. on Nov. 14. Learn how to save a life using proper AED and CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants. Class is taught by American Heart Association-certified instructors. Participant certifications are valid for two years. Registration is required. Cost is $40 per person.
• Prediabetes: 6 p.m. on Nov. 16. Participants will learn how to monitor their blood sugar and make dietary changes to help lower blood sugar. Participants will receive a free blood sugar monitor. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $30 per person, includes a support person.
• Pediatric First Aid: 6 p.m. on Nov. 16. Learn how to apply first aid in basic medical and environmental emergencies to children and infants. This class is taught by American Heart Association-certified instructors. Participants are First Aid certified for two years. Cost is $40.
• Preoperative Joint Class: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 11. This free class is designed for anyone having knee or hip joint surgery. The class will inform the patient and loved ones what to expect before surgery, during your hospital stay and first several weeks after surgery. Registration is required.
• Joint Replacement – The Right Choice for You?: 6 p.m. Nov. 10. An orthopedic surgeon will discuss hip and knee replacement surgery during this free class.
• Infant Safety and CPR: 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 9 or Nov. 30. Before your baby arrives get prepared to keep him or her safe by learning how to prevent the most common unintentional injuries of infants and toddlers. Registration is required. Cost is $40 per couple.
• Hop to Signaroo – Baby Sign Language: 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 15 and 22. Hearing families can use American Sign Language to communicate with hearing babies as young as 5 months old. Four sessions. Details at www.hoptosignaroo.com. Cost is $128 plus required $19 materials fee; payable at the first class.
• Pain and Beyond: 3-5 p.m. Nov. 11, 18 and 25. This three-class series is offered in two components, educational and activity. Cost is $10 per class.
