LAKE STEVENS — A family was left homeless Sunday night after a fire destroyed their home.
Firefighters rushed to a one-story home in the 15800 block of OK Mill Road about 6:15 p.m., Lake Stevens Fire Department Battalion Chief Travis Hots said.
“The roof started to collapse. We had to pull firefighters out of the building,” he said. Crews attacked the fire from the outside, pouring water through the home’s door and windows.
The house sat a quarter-mile down a steep, narrow driveway. No fire hydrants were nearby, Hots said.
Special trucks had to carry water to the house, he said. About 18 firefighters from neighboring districts battled the blaze. Crews were on scene for hours.
The fire left two adults and two teenagers without a home, Hots said. Snohomish County Red Cross volunteers were helping the family.
The house was a total loss, he said. Investigators from the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office were trying to determine what caused the fire.
