PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap Sheriff’s Office says a 57-year-old woman is under arrest on suspicion of solicitation of murder in the death of her 68-year-old husband.
The arrest was the result of a yearlong investigation that was launched after the daughter of the couple questioned the circumstances of her father’s death in 2014.
The man had serious health problems but an autopsy showed that he died from a drug overdose.
Detectives say the woman had told people that her husband was worth more dead than alive and he had a $1 million life insurance policy.
The woman, who worked at a corrections facility, admitted that she asked two inmates about having her husband murdered but said it was a joke.
Sheriff spokesman Ken Dickinson says they’re not releasing the woman’s name until she’s been charged in court. He says he doesn’t know if she has a lawyer yet.
