The far left lane of southbound I-5 from Highway 530 to 172nd Street NE is closed due to standing water. The two right lanes remain open.
The lane had been ground down for repaving and was still open for traffic when it began collecting water, according to the state Department of Transportation. The lane will remain closed until the weather improves and the paving can be completed.
Depending on the weather, crews plan to repave the lane on Wednesday and have it open for the morning commute on Thursday.
Repaving of the other two lanes already has been completed as part of a $4.5 million project.
The state is repaving four miles of southbound and one mile of northbound I-5 through Arlington, the on- and off-ramps at Highway 530, and ramps to and from the rest areas in Smokey Point, through this fall. Nighttime and some daytime lane closures will be needed.
