SPOKANE — Fire departments around Spokane are regrouping after their levy and bond requests were rejected by voters.
The Spokesman Review reported The Newman Lake Fire District 13 failed to pass a $2.2 million construction bond. The district commissioners are considering whether to run the bond again.
Spokane County Fire District 8 failed to pass its first maintenance and operations levy to replace dropping property tax revenue. It failed with a 51 percent approval. The measure needed a 60 percent approval to pass.
District commissioners have passed an alternative budget and will put off replacing equipment.
The loss of a fire levy was painful in Rockford. The town’s replacement fire levy got a 56.7 percent approval vote, just a few points shy of the 60 percent required. Rockford officials said they’ll probably try again.
