SPOKANE — The 10-year-old daughter of a Spokane police officer who authorities say accidentally shot herself in the leg with her father’s service gun has been released from the hospital.
The girl shot herself at the family’s home on Sunday. Her father is Spokane Police Officer Barry O’Connell, whose disciplinary record includes three suspensions. He also has been decorated multiple times.
The Sheriff’s Office has opened a criminal investigation into the case. O’Connell also could be disciplined by the department because officers are required to keep their weapons secured.
