Stanwood Mayor Matt McCune has announced his resignation, effective at the end of the year.
McCune cited the time constraints of raising two sets of twins all approaching their teenage years, plus his job as an engineering manager at Boeing, as reasons for his departure.
“I had mentioned previously when I ran for a second term that I would not finish this second term,” McCune said. “Is there any good time to leave? You’ve got to draw the line somewhere. This is the line I drew, and I stuck to it.”
The Stanwood City Council will meet in a workshop session at 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall to decide which council member will take McCune’s place as interim mayor until the next general election in 2004. At that election, voters will choose someone to complete McCune’s term, which ends in 2005.
