STANWOOD — Female singing voices wanted.
Commitment required.
Big hearts a plus.
The Stanwood Threshold Choir, which was formed in November, continues to look for more members.
The women are training to sing in small groups at the bedsides of people who are dying or are
seriously ill.
When the choir’s directors deem the group ready, the Threshold Choir members will make themselves available to the community free of charge, director Judy Mieger said.
“The idea is that we bring comfort and hope to those who are at the threshold of a new life,” Mieger said. “Compassion is the thing we all have in common.”
Begun in the San Francisco Bay area, the Threshold Choir movement is about 10 years old. Stanwood’s choir is among 100 such choirs around the country, including those in Bellingham and Seattle.
If you like to sing, can carry a tune and could quietly blend your voice with others, you might want to consider this ministry, Mieger said.
Especially needed are young voices, and high school girls and college women are encouraged to consider joining the choir, she said.
Most of the songs, which must be learned by heart, are simple choruses, lullabies, hymns, spirituals and poems set to music. Interested women are encouraged to attend a rehearsal to find out more about the Threshold Choir and if it’s something they can do.
Rehearsals are from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Josephine Sunset Home, 9901 272nd Pl. NW, Stanwood.
The next rehearsal is this afternoon.
Donations to help pay the choir’s expenses also are being accepted.
