OLYMPIA — The Washington Transportation Department has granted drivers a third extension of the studded tire season. Drivers now have through April 25 to remove their studded tires.
The department’s director of maintenance operations, Chris Christopher, notes that Washington has gotten close to 4 feet of new snow in the mountains since April 1 and forecasts call for as much as 2 feet more through the end of next week.
Christopher says drivers who aren’t heading over mountain passes should switch tires now.
Studded tires typically are legal in Washington from Nov. 1 through March 31.
