OLYMPIA — After 24 years in the Washington Legislature, veteran state Sen. Margarita Prentice says she won’t seek re-election this year.
Under a newly released redistricting plan, the Renton Democrat’s home would no longer be in the 11th District. Instead, The Seattle Times reported that she would be in fellow Democratic state Sen. Adam Kline’s 37th District.
Prentice said Thursday she does not plan to run against Kline.
Turning 81 next month, she says she’s ready to retire and spend time with her family. She said retirement has been on her mind for a while and “redistricting made it very clear.”
Prentice joined the state House in 1988 and won election to the Senate four years later.
The Legislature still must approve the redistricting plan proposed by a state redistricting commission.
