The Snohomish County Democratic Central Committee has picked three candidates to fill Aaron Reardon’s 38th District Senate seat: Kelly Wright; Rep. Jean Berkey, D-Everett; and Rep. John McCoy, D-Tulalip.
Berkey and McCoy serve as District 38 lawmakers, while Wright has been active in the party and was appointed to Marysville’s salary commission this year.
Reardon was elected Snohomish County executive in November. The nominations for his replacement in Olympia were made during a special meeting Saturday.
The Snohomish County Council will choose the new senator from the finalists. A date has not yet been set for the council’s interviews.
If the County Council chooses either Berkey or McCoy, a state house seat for the 38th District would be open. The Central Committee has nominated three people — Mike Sells, David Simpson and Wright — to fill that position.
Sells is secretary-treasurer of the Snohomish County Labor Council and Simpson recently lost to longtime incumbent Doug Campbell for Everett City Council.
The County Council also would pick the district’s next legislator in the House from the list of those three candidates.
