OLYMPIA — The Washington Public Disclosure Commission is starting to take a look at political activity on the Internet. It’s concerned about bloggers being paid to advocate for candidates.
Commission chairman Bill Brumsickle told a panel discussion yesterday the commission will go slow because it does not want to over-regulate or overstep the authority of the Legislature.
Bob Stern of the California-based Center for Governmental Studies says Washington appears to be taking the lead nationally on the topic. He suggested a threshold of $1,000 before political blogging is regulated.
