In the ever-present quest to ease congestion, several local organizations have been nominated by Gov. Gary Locke and the Washington Department of Transportation for 2002 CommuteSmart Awards, including Alside Windows Co. Northwest in Bothell, AT&T Broadband in Everett, Regence Blue Shield in Everett and Snohomish County government.
Award organizers said each of the 34 nominees statewide has saved space on the roads and reduced effects from air pollution and gasoline consumption by reducing the number of employees who drive alone to work. The state’s Commute Trip Reduction Program removes 20,700 cars from the roadways each morning.
