Stolen-car chase damages two sheriff’s vehicles

MALTBY – Two Snohomish County sheriff’s patrol cars were damaged following a chase with a man driving a stolen car.

A deputy spotted a stolen Dodge Neon about 9:30 a.m. Sunday in south Everett. The deputy attempted to stop the car but the driver sped away, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

Other deputies joined in the pursuit. At one point the suspect rammed two patrol cars, Jorgensen said. No one was injured.

The man eventually lost control of the Neon and crashed into a wooded area near W. Bostian Road.

He ran from the car. A sheriff’s helicopter and dogs searched for the man but were unable to find him.

Firefighters had to rappel down a 250-foot bank to put out hot spots, Edmonds Battalion Chief Greg Lucas said. The fire burned just less than an acre of land. No one was injured. The railroad track was reopened just after 9 p.m.

Everett: Family of man killed on job gets help

A fund has been set up for the family of a man killed at the Kimberly-Clark Corp. plant Friday. Donald Martin, 57, of Alger was doing routine work on a conveyor about noon when he was struck by a piece of moving equipment, mill manager Scott Helker said. Martin operated a tissue machine and had worked at the plant for 15 years. Mill employees set up a fund for Martin’s family at Mill Town Credit Union, 2516 W. Marine View Drive in Everett. The state Department of Labor and Industry is investigating the death. It has been more than a decade since there was a fatal accident at the plant, Helker said.
