The winds that the National Weather Service promised have arrived. Just in time for your afternoon commute.
From now until 6 p.m., the storm’s strongest winds – up to 60 mph – are expected to bring driving rain and hail to the Snohomish County coast , and lash weather-weary Camano and Whidbey Islands.
The wind will ease off but still blow until about 9 p.m., weather officials report.
” Weather conditions could change rapidly . Drivers should be prepared to drive in all weather conditions, not just wind,” said Travis Phelps, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation. “There could be possible rain, hail or snow later in the evening hours.”
After the wind blows through, freezing temperatures will follow.
As much of an inch could fall in Snohomish County late tonight, and more could fall on Wednesday, said Carl Cerniglia, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Temperatures tonight and Wednesday should hover around freezing, but by Wednesday night temperatures should drop again as a front of arctic air moves into the region, Cerniglia said.
Lows on Wednesday and Thursday will be in the teens . Highs will be in the low 30s.
“Thats pretty chilly for around here,” Cerniglia said.
