A stove used to heat a Clearview garage is blamed for sparking a fire that caused about $5,500 damage Tuesday morning.
Crews were called just before 1 a.m. to the fire in a detached garage in the 16000 block of Highway 9, Snohomish County Fire District 7 spokeswoman Autumn Waite said.
It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, she said.
No one was inside the garage when the fire started. The owner called 911 after hearing a large boom. He went to the garage and one of two vehicles was on fire.
Officials believe the blaze started when paper products near the stove caught fire.
Waite said the incident is a reminder that ovens and stoves should never be used in place of heaters.
