Eel drink goes on sale for Japan’s hot summer
It’s the hottest season of the year in Japan, and that means it’s eel season. So, bottom’s up!
A canned drink called “Unagi Nobori,” or “Surging Eel,” made by Japan Tobacco Inc., hit the nation’s stores this month just ahead of Japan’s annual eel-Âeating season, company spokesman Kazunori Hayashi said Monday. Many Japanese believe eating eel boosts stamina in hot weather.
The fizzy, yellow-colored drink contains extracts from the head and bones of eel and five vitamins — A, B1, B2, D and E — contained in the creatures.
Guests at party mistake police for strippers
No one had ordered strippers for the 30th birthday party — but the two policemen who arrived after midnight to quiet the raucous celebration found themselves greeted by a round of applause.
Female partygoers in western Germany mistook the real-life officers for fake ones who entertain parties by peeling off enticing man-in-uniform outfits.
Police spokesman Bernd Hoffmann said Monday the case of mistaken identity took place in Simmern after neighbors complained about the noise.
“It took them a while to realize they were real police officers,” Hoffmann said. “It was a bit funny for all sides.”
