Hilltop Elementary School held an annual canned food drive and brought in over 2,900 cans for the Lynnwood Food Bank.
Since mid-October, 22 Edmonds School District schools have collected thousands of pounds of food for the local food banks in Lynnwood, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace. Other food drives are planned at other schools through mid-June.
Meanwhile, students in fifth-grade teacher Mary Magill’s class at Lynnwood Elementary School for a third year held a blanket drive, after a presentation on what it means to be homeless. This year’s effort brought in 103 blankets, which will be distributed to school families served under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act.
