LAKE STEVENS — Thanksgiving meals are ready to be delivered to Glenwood Elementary School students in need and their families.
Volunteers with the Li’l Hungry Hearts program plan to bring turkeys, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pies and other holiday food items to the homes of 11 students before Thursday, according to Anita Caffee, a parent volunteer.
The school started a coin drive to begin this year’s supplemental food program for families in need during the holidays, Caffee said. The program is planning to serve at least as many students during Glenwood’s winter break, Dec. 20-31, as it does for Thanksgiving.
“I know these are families that need it,” Caffee said. “I know I’ll probably have a lot more for the holiday break.”
Donations of coins, cash and checks payable to Glenwood ASB-LHH will be collected at Glenwood Elementary through Dec. 10 so that food can also be delivered to families before winter break.
The Li’l Hungry Hearts program started with a school food drive in March. Eight families who qualified for the program received food from March to June. Three children were served by the program throughout the summer.
Donations to the Li’l Hungry Hearts Coin Drive can be dropped off or mailed to Glenwood Elementary at 2221 103rd Ave. SE, Lake Stevens, WA 98258.
