SULTAN — The Sultan School District today will honor community activists Rita Pearsall and Linda Clarke, and teacher Kimbra Smith, for their work in support of Sultan schools.
The three will be recognized as part of the Washington Association of School Administrators luncheon for school districts in the region, which honors community service and student achievement.
Pearsall and Clarke have served as campaign managers for school elections for the last decade and have developed a successful system for Sky Valley. In February, they orchestrated a maintenance and operation levy campaign that resulted in a four-year levy.
Superintendent Al Robinson praised Smith, an eighth-grade social studies teacher, for her efforts to improve student achievement at Sultan Middle School. She has contributed to increased learning for staff and students by identifying data sources and helping staff members use that data, Robinson said.
Smith also has served on many other teams and assumed leadership roles by mentoring new teachers and being a resource for school change, he said.
