Heavy snowfall in Snohomish County on Sunday evening turned tricky driving treacherous.
In Edmonds cars littered the streets, were spun out in ditches and stuck in snow banks.
It was much the same story in Everett.
Traffic along I-5 northbound was reduced to 40 miles-per-hour as all lanes were covered in snow, making it impossible to tell where one lane began and another ended.
Marysville roads, which had cleared and begun to thaw on Sunday afternoon, were buried again under fresh snow by early evening .
When the snow is likely to stop falling is difficult to predict, Mike McFarland of the National Weather Service said Sunday evening.
“It’s tricky,” he said. “We’re heading into a convergence zone in Everett. There should be light snow flurries in Everett on Monday, but later in the week we are probably looking at more snow.”
That snow may turn into rain by Wednesday, but Christmas could bring even more snow he said.
“Wednesday looks messy. If its wet snow and changes into rain it’s going to be pretty unpleasant,” McFarland said.
